Digital 2D X-ray

Digital x-rays

X-raying is still one of the most important tools for carrying out dental diagnostics. Our surgery is equipped with digital x-ray equipment. This represents a further development of conventional analogue x-raying.

Less radiation and environmentally friendlier x-rays

X-rays in dental medicine generally use a smaller dose of radiation. In comparison to analogue x-rays, digital x-rays use significantly less radiation.

Also, digital x-rays do not have to be developed using chemical substances. Depending on the system that is used, no film material made from plastic film is required, which makes digital x-rays significantly more environmentally friendly.

Other advantages:

  • The images are available immediately and can be retrieved straight away in any treatment room and then analysed and discussed with you.
  • If required and with your consent, the x-ray images can be quickly and securely transmitted to colleagues by e-mail (in order to clarify technical questions or in the event of referrals. This saves us both a great deal of time.

Single tooth or panoramic x-rays

Depending on the requirements, X-rays can generally be used to take images of single teeth or so-called panoramic images.

Single tooth images show an individual tooth with its root and the surrounding jawbone in an enlarged and extremely detailed form. The inside of the tooth with the root canals can also be seen. Panoramic images (also known as overview images or “orthopantomograms”, abbreviated to OPG) show all of the teeth, including the maxilla and the mandible, the maxillary sinuses and the mandibular joints. A panoramic image provides information, for example, about teeth which have not grown out or possible inflammatory processes in the area of the periodontium or in the jaw itself. It also shows the root canals, but not in as much detail as the image of a single tooth. Panoramic images are created in a single recording process by moving the X-ray unit in a semicircle around your head.
