Rubber dam

A rubber dam is a medical sheet that is stretched around the relevant tooth prior to treatment. It isolates the tooth from the moisture and bacteria of the oral cavity. The rubber dam is particularly useful for treatment during which maximum dryness and freedom from germs is important, such as during root canal treatment or the insertion of composite fillings.

The use of rubber dam is a method that has been proven for many years, and can often achieve better treatment results.

The advantages of rubber dam:

  • With a rubber dam we can carry out the treatment under dry and low-bacterial conditions, which usually provides better therapeutic success.
  • During root canal treatment, a rubber dam protects the root canals from bacteria from the oral cavity, which increases the likelihood of success of the treatment.
  • A rubber dam also prevents you from swallowing unpleasant-tasting rinsing solutions.
