Intra-oral scanner

Intra-oral scanner

In order to manufacture dentures and also removable dental braces (aligners) for tooth correction, previously it was necessary to first take an impression of the teeth using an impression material and impression trays. In the case of dentures, for example, this impression is one of the first steps in the treatment and is the basis upon which the dental laboratory manufactures the dentures.

We can offer you a convenient alternative to traditional impressions!

We can record your dental situation contactlessly and digitally using an intra-oral scanner. This records the relevant location in the mouth or the entire dentition with high precision, and immediately displays the result in the form of a virtual three-dimensional model on the monitor.

The advantages of the intra-oral scanner:

  • Patient comfort: The process of taking an impression using the impression material (the compound that is reminiscent of modelling clay or rubber which creates an impression of the teeth) and the metal impression trays, which are unpleasant for some patients, are no longer necessary. Any potential gag reflex is also ruled out. Many patients find this to be very pleasant.
  • Better quality: The resulting image of the teeth and gums is extremely precise, and makes it possible to provide an excellent fit for dentures, for example. The quality can be checked directly on the screen and corrected if necessary. This avoids the errors and inaccuracies which are possible with normal impressions. This precision is an important prerequisite for the quality of your new crown or bridge, for example.
  • Time saving: The images are available immediately, and the process which usually takes place in multiple stages (model production, pouring plaster casts, etc.) is no longer necessary.
  • Digital work processes: The data from the intra-oral scanner can be processed directly digitally and quickly (“digital workflow”). This simplifies work processes, and saves time which we can put to good use for you as a patient.
  • Less material / environmental protection: Impression material is no longer required.

Use of the scanner deployment on the example of dentures:

  • As usual, we remove decay or an old filling, for example, and prepare the tooth for receiving the denture or an inlay.
  • The intra-oral scanner records the relevant location in the mouth. The result is displayed on the computer monitor immediately. The image can be enlarged and rotated in all directions. You also get a clear impression of your teeth that was previously impossible.
  • Your crown, bridge or inlay is digitally constructed on the screen with multiple magnifications. The manufacture of the new denture can then take place in different ways. If necessary, the data is sent to a high-tech milling machine or a 3D printer, which produces the new denture fully automatically and with high precision.
