CEREC® Munich | Impression-free tooth restoration in one visit
Technology is rapidly developing in modern dentistry to give patients the highest level of comfort, efficiency and aesthetics. CEREC® is one of these revolutionary technologies – a computer-based method to produce high-quality restorations in a single visit. This innovative technique has fundamentally changed the conventional process of preparing crowns, inlays and veneers, and offers patients a quicker, more precise and aesthetically appealing solution for their dental requirements. Learn more about the benefits and process of CEREC® below. We also explain how our practice in Munich uses this modern procedure to give our patients an optimum treatment experience.
What is CEREC®?
CEREC® is a computer-aided technology to quickly produce aesthetic and non-metallic all-ceramic or synthetic tooth restoration without having to cast impressions. This innovative method sometimes even enables patients to go home on the same day with their “new tooth”. In our Munich practice, we can produce various types of restorations such as inlays, crowns and veneers using CEREC®.
The benefits of CEREC®
The CEREC® technology offers numerous advantages that revolutionise the conventional process of producing tooth restorations. From its flexibility to the choice of materials to eliminating the need for impressions, these are just a few reasons why more and more patients are choosing CEREC®.
No impressions required
The traditional process of casting impressions can be unpleasant for many patients and even trigger their gag reflex. CEREC® eliminates the need for this entirely. An intraoral scanner or camera takes an extremely precise digital impression without any contact. Not only is this innovative method more comfortable, it also offers greater accuracy when capturing the tooth structure.
Modern scanners have revolutionised the way in which impressions are created in dentistry. Intraoral scanners make it possible to take impressions accurately and precisely without patients suffering as a result of their gag reflex being triggered. This progressive technology enables dentists to capture ultra-precise 3D images of the oral cavity, which can then be used to produce restorations or other dental treatments. The use of scanners not only helps to increase patient comfort, it also improves the accuracy and efficiency of dental procedures. Overall, scanners provide a modern and patient-friendly solution for taking impressions in the dental practice.
Shorter treatment time
Another major advantage of CEREC® is the significantly reduced treatment time. In many cases the entire procedure, including the production and fitting of the tooth restoration, can be completed in just one appointment. This method, which is also called a “chairside” restoration, enables patients to go home with their new tooth restoration after just one visit to the practice. This reduces the time needed for patients as well as our medical personnel.
Biocompatible and allergen-free
Another important aspect of CEREC® is the biocompatibility of the used material. All-ceramic contains no metal and is therefore particularly suited to allergy sufferers. This gives the technology a broader application and guarantees that patients don’t need to worry about allergic reactions. The use of non-metallic materials also helps to preserve the long-term health of your teeth and minimises the risk of complications such as inflammation.
Top quality and long-term stability
In addition to their aesthetic appeal, CEREC® tooth restorations also offer exceptional quality and long-term stability. All-ceramic is a high-quality, long-lasting material that resists abrasion and ensures a long lifespan for tooth restorations. The high accuracy of fit and the precise “marginal fit” of the tooth restoration considerably reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum inflammation. This makes CEREC® an aesthetic and functional solution for tooth restorations.
Thanks to “chairside” procedures, patients can eliminate the time-consuming process of conventional impressions and laboratory work and receive their CEREC® tooth restoration on the same day. This method is more comfortable for patients as well as being more precise as the tooth restoration is produced at the dental practice. Another benefit of CEREC® is the versatility of the materials that can be used, including premium ceramic for aesthetic and long-lasting results.
A flexible material choice
As well as ceramic, we also offer the flexibility of choosing high-quality plastic as a material for your tooth restoration. This choice is in line with the respective indication and individual wishes of the patient. Irrespective of your final choice, every tooth restoration will be a tooth-coloured and highly aesthetic solution.
No temporary measure
In contrast to conventional methods of production, which often require a temporary solution for a few days or even weeks, CEREC® patients do not usually need a temporary measure – and if they do, it will only be for a very short period. In many cases patients leave our practice with their new tooth restoration on the same or very next day.
How CEREC® works in our Munich practice
- Digital impression
An image of the prepared tooth will be taken using a small scanner to record the starting situation digitally and entirely without casting impressions. - Digital planning
The three-dimensional image of the tooth and the adjacent teeth will be shown on a screen. The crown, veneer or inlay will be digitally designed – custom-fit taking into account the adjacent teeth and the opposing teeth to ensure an optimum bite. - Computer-aided manufacture
The digital design data will be transmitted to a high-tech grinding machine in our practice, which will carve out the constructed restoration piece in just a few minutes from a small block of high-quality ceramic or plastic. It will then be polished or briefly glaze fired if needed. - Fitting the restoration
The dental restoration can generally be fitted immediately after being produced, giving you a restoration that meets the highest standards in aesthetics and function.
